We turned the arch bridge in Ankara's Dikmen Valley into a line of light legible from afar at night, with pixel-controlled luminaires drawing its lines and wall washers painting its body in color.

Dikmen Valley is a long green corridor running through the middle of Çankaya: an urban valley that Ankara residents use all day, with walking paths, ponds and parks. The arch bridge connecting the two sides of the valley is one of the most prominent skyline elements in the area, visible both from within the valley and from the tall buildings around it.
A bridge legible at night
Our goal in this project was to make the bridge as legible at night as it is by day: to bring out the elegant form of the arch and its supporting lines without overpowering the valley’s natural texture with too much light. So instead of flooding the surfaces with flat light, we started from the structure’s own lines.
The lighting concept: line first, then color
We built the concept in two layers. The first layer is light that draws the form of the structure; the second is color that adds atmosphere to the bridge body.
MidiPix P8 for the lines: In this linear luminaire with 8 pixels per meter, every pixel can be controlled individually. The bridge’s lines can stay calm in a single color or turn into dynamic effects with light flowing along the line. IP68 and IK10 protection safeguards it against the humidity and outdoor conditions of the valley.
MiniRado RGB for color: This compact wall washer spreads light broadly and evenly across the surface, painting the bridge body in color. Any desired tone can be achieved by mixing red, green and blue.
All the luminaires are managed from a single center via DMX512. This lets the bridge switch to vivid color transitions on special days and calm tones in harmony with the valley on ordinary nights. The red, blue and green views at the top of the page are just a few of these scenes.
Light that reassures the valley
The lighting did more than turn the bridge into a skyline element; it created a reassuring level of light around the bridge and on the walking paths of the valley at night. Thanks to highly energy-efficient LED luminaires, this effect continues at a low operating cost.
