What is a spotlight?
It is a luminaire that directs light at a narrow angle onto a single point or object. It highlights sculptures, columns, niches and reliefs on a facade, or trees in the landscape, by setting them apart from their surroundings.
Should I choose a spotlight or a wall washer?
A wall washer is chosen to light an entire surface evenly, a spotlight to accentuate a single detail. On most facades the two are used together: the wall washer lights the background, the spotlight the detail.
How is the beam angle chosen?
The longer the distance between the luminaire and the target, the narrower the angle needed. A narrow optic is chosen for a small detail far away, a wider-angle optic for a large object nearby.
What should be considered outdoors?
In places exposed to rain, dust and impact, a high protection rating, stainless fittings and a mounting bracket whose direction can be locked are important; that way the set angle is kept for years.
