A skyscraper is usually recognized at night by the light spilling from its windows, and that light is the same floor after floor. At Metafor we wanted to give the tower a pattern of its own, independent of the windows.
We placed intersecting diagonal lines on the tower’s facade. Each line is made of MidiPix P8s and looks like a single continuous line of light from a distance. The lines wrap around the corners of the tower, so the building is recognized by the same pattern from whichever direction it is seen.
Pixel control lets light flow along the lines: color can start at one corner and climb up along the diagonals. Warm orange tones blend the tower with the lights of the city, while blue and white scenes give it a cooler, sharper look. The Metafor sign at the mall entrance was lit in the same linear language.
