At the historic Fındıklı building of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, we lit the facade with warm white light and the interiors with custom-designed pendant luminaires; the building is seen from the Bosphorus as a golden silhouette.
Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University has been the home of art education in Türkiye since 1882. Its historic building in Fındıklı stands on the shore of the Bosphorus and, seen from the sea, is one of the city’s most familiar facades. In a building like this, the task of light is not to show off novelty but to present what exists at its best.
Instead of colorful scenes we used warm white light on the facade. The light accentuates the window surrounds, cornices and floor lines, carrying the building’s classical order into the night. The warm tone harmonizes with the color of the stone and plaster; with its reflection on the sea, the building is seen from the Bosphorus as a golden silhouette.
In the faculty spaces we used custom-designed pendant luminaires suited to the high ceilings. In the studios and classroom corridors, evenly distributed light prioritized accurate color rendering and visual comfort during long working hours. So the same building receives the right light both for those working inside and for those looking from outside.
