The first place a visitor looks when trying to find their way across the large EXPO 2023 Kahramanmaraş grounds is the Iconic Tower. In the middle of a circular square, it rises like a bundle of vertical fins of different heights. It had to do the same job at night: to be a landmark that guides the way from wherever on the site you look.
We drew each vertical fin of the tower from base to top with MidiPix P8s. Because the fins end at different heights, the lines of light gain a natural rhythm too. With pixel control, color can climb from bottom to top, the fins can light up one after another, or the whole tower can hold a single color.
Since the tower is seen from every corner of the site, the scenes were designed to be bold and clear rather than busy: strong colors such as red and white, blue and purple. Together with the lighting of the square around it, the tower becomes the stage of the site on ceremony and event nights.
